Heading into the 2024 NFL offseason, the Green Bay Packers were looked upon highly by evaluators. They had exceeded all expectations during the 2023 season, earning the final Wild Card spot in the NFC and even winning a postseason game.

Despite a loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round, the 2023 campaign was a major success for the Packers. They look to have another franchise quarterback in Jordan Love and have one of the youngest rosters in the NFL, providing optimism for the future.

Heading into free agency, it was no surprise that the Green Bay Packers were inside the top 10 of NFL Power Rankings. They have held steady in that spot, even after the 2024 NFL Draft, as evaluators have liked what they have done with their roster.

In the opinion of Rob Demovsky, the most impressive thing the Green Bay Packers have done this offseason is improve their situation at safety. Coming in at No. 10 in ESPN’s Power Rankings, here is what Demovsky had to say about the team’s most improved position.

“The Packers essentially started over here by making a huge free agent splash with Xavier McKinney (four-year, $68 million contract) and then drafting three safeties: Javon Bullard (second round), Evan Williams (fourth) and Kitan Oladapo (fifth) after they moved on from Darnell Savage, Jonathan Owens and Rudy Ford — a trio that combined to play nearly 2,000 snaps last season,” wrote Demovsky.

Safety has been an area of need for years in Green Bay. It has regularly been seen as the team’s biggest weakness, but it looks to be turning into a strength in 2024 and beyond. Xavier McKinney is a big addition to the group and the rookie class looks like a strong one.

The depth chart is now filled with talented players possessing different strengths, providing Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley the chance to mix and match based on the game plan. McKinney is locked into one starting spot and Javon Bullard should see the field early and often as well.
