Matt LaFleur Dishes on How Packers Could Use Josh Jacobs

With OTA’s underway for the Green Bay Packers, head coach Matt LaFleur recently spoke about how he plans on using Josh Jacobs in 2024.

As the Green Bay Packers move through the summer and get closer to the start of the 2024 season, all eyes will be on the talented young offense in Green Bay. Jordan Love will be entering his second season as the starting quarterback for the franchise and he has a real chance to become a special quarterback in the league.

This offseason, the Packers did what they could to try and continue to help Love’s development. One of the biggest moves was the signing of Josh Jacobs to a four-year, $48 million deal.

Jacobs has had a great career in the NFL so far, and while he has been heavily used with the Las Vegas Raiders, he should still have some good years left in him. Recently, head coach Mike LaFleur spoke about what Jacobs’ role with the team will be. Here’s what he had to say.

“I think he is very capable of being a high-volume feature back, where he’s getting a bulk of the carries, but we will see how it plays out,” LaFleur said.

Jacobs is certainly used to being the primary back from his time with the Las Vegas Raiders, but the Packers also have a solid running back in AJ Dillon backing him up. While Jacobs didn’t have the best year in 2023 on a bad Raiders team, he did run for over 1,600 yards in 2022.

While the Packers likely won’t need Jacobs to total over 1,500 yards on the ground to have a good season, he can do so.

As the summer goes on, we should continue to get an idea of what Josh Jacobs’ usage rate will be with the Packers.
