Park Center alum CJ O’Hara recently announced the latest chapter in his basketball career, signing to attend and play NCAA Division I basketball at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay.

The news came soon after the announcement that Park Center’s Chiang Ring, who graduated last week, was committing to also play DI basketball at Murray State after concluding a career to remember with the Pirates last winter.

O’Hara was a key part of the team that won the section championship in 2022-23 and made a run to the 2024 Class AAAA State Championship game, where the Pirates lost 75-71 to Wayzata. O’Hara also previously played with Hopkins and Totino-Grace.

After Park Center, O’Hara attended Combine Academy for one year. Combine Academy is an international boarding school and sports performance center located in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Green Bay Phoenix, coached by Doug Gottlieb, play basketball in the Horizon League. The Phoenix were NCAA tournament runner-ups twice in the 1970s as a DII school and more recently had success in 2016 as a DI school, when they won their conference championship and made a tournament appearance.

In a statement published by the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay athletics department, Gottlieb noted the excitement the program shares for signing O’Hara.

“[CJ O’Hara] is our kind of guy,” Gottlieb said. “His work ethic, mentality, and personality has stamped him as an impact player and person at every program he’s been part of.”

O’Hara joins a talented class of Park Center alum playing DI basketball, including Braeden Carrington and Dain Dainja, who recently transferred to the University of Tulsa and the University of Memphis respectively.
