Packers Elgton Jenkins Receives Elite Rank Among Guards

The Green Bay Packers offensive line could feature a few new faces in 2024. Long-time left tackle David Bakhtiari was released and right guard Jon Runyan Jr. departed in free agency. One familiar name that is going to be in the lineup in 2024 is Elgton Jenkins.

Elgton Jenkins, a second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State, spent 2024 as the team’s starting left guard. But, like many other players in the trenches for Green Bay, he has shown versatility playing all over the line.

Over his five-season career, he has also taken snaps at left tackle, center and right tackle. He has earned two Pro Bowl appearances and is one of the steadiest guards in the NFL. This offseason, he has taken some snaps at the pivot, as head coach Matt LaFleur is testing different combinations along the offensive line.

But, should he remain at left guard, the Packers will have one of the better interior offensive linemen filling that spot. Thomas Valentine of PFF ranked the guards in the NFL ahead of the 2024 season and Elgton Jenkins came in at No. 18.

“His 65.4 PFF overall grade in 2023 was the lowest of his career, but Jenkins earned an 81.3 pass-blocking grade and was one of just four guards to play more than 700 snaps and not allow a single sack,” Valentine wrote.

Ranking in the top 20 out of 64 starting players at guard is an excellent landing spot. Elgton Jenkins has earned it with his performance throughout his career, as he is one of the most consistent producers at the position.

As Valentine noted, no matter where the Packers have used him, the Mississippi State product has been producing at a high level. It will be interesting to see where they end up deploying him in 2024, as he is one of two players, along with Zach Tom, assured of a starting spot; where they will start is anyone’s guess at this point.
