Green Bay Packers Jaire Alexander Featured in All-Decade Mock Draft

Having an outstanding quarterback, as the Green Bay Packers have for 30 years and counting, helps a team stay competitive. But to have sustained success, you also need to do well in other areas, such as the NFL Draft. One of those standouts for the Packers has been cornerback Jaire Alexander.

In recent years, the Green Bay Packers have excelled in that area too. Whether it is early, late, or undrafted free agents, the team has found and developed young talent well. So, it should come as no surprise that they are featured several times on an All-Decade Mock Draft done by Trevor Sikkema of PFF.

Sikkema took a look at all the drafts from 2015 and on, compiling the best players at each slot in the first round. The Packers were featured on the list three times, with another player receiving consideration for his slot.

The highest player selected in this mock draft is cornerback Jaire Alexander. The No. 18 overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft out of Louisville has developed into one of the best cover corners in the league when healthy.

“Alexander may not have as many career interceptions as Marcus Peters, but his coverage highs have been just as good and his coverage lows have been much higher, with 73.0 being his lowest single-season coverage grade — and that was his rookie season. When healthy, Alexander is a true CB1 who can play on the outside or in the slot,” wrote Sikkema.

A 73.0 coverage grade is considered pretty solid by PFF’s standards. That being the lowest of Jaire Alexander’s career, and it coming in his rookie season, speaks to how consistent his performance has been throughout his career.

The Packers have deployed Alexander mostly on the perimeter in his career because they haven’t been afforded the chance to move him around. But with a cornerback group they are confident in, we could start to see him shadow the opponent’s No. 1 receiver in 2024.

That would make this defense even tougher to produce against. Having Alexander matched up against the opponent’s best receiver the entire game, not just when he lines up on his side of the field, would help defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley eliminate one thing to worry about every week.
