Packers Jaire Alexander Ranked Highly Among Cornerbacks

The Green Bay Packers should have a much-improved defense in 2024. Players have spoken glowingly about the changes under Jeff Hafley. One of the players who will be relied upon heavily to help elevate this unit is cornerback Jaire Alexander.

Jaire Alexander is one of the best shutdown cornerbacks in the NFL. He could not showcase that talent consistently in 2023 because of injuries and he had a few run-ins with the coaching staff.

Everyone is looking to put that lost season behind them. The first-round pick from the 2018 NFL Draft has come into offseason workouts with a new mindset. He is putting the team first and looking to be a leader, doing whatever is needed to help the Packers improve.

Staying on the field would help them immensely. He is a bonafide start at the cornerback position and his spot in the PFF cornerback rankings reflects that.

In the opinion of John Kosko of PFF, there aren’t many players at the position better than Jaire Alexander. When ranking the top 32 players at the position ahead of the 2024 season, he has the Packers star coming in at No. 7.

“The Packers star is another injury-riddled player who takes a hit on the rankings. Alexander earned a 91.9 grade from 2020 to 2022, the league’s best mark over that span. He needs to show he can stay healthy in 2024, as he’s now missed large portions of two of the last three seasons,” Kosko wrote.

As Kosko notes, you couldn’t find a better coverage corner in the NFL than Jaire Alexander for three years. The Packers are hoping that 2023 was a blip in the radar, not the start of a downward trend.

If they can get a healthy season out of 2021 first-round pick Eric Stokes, it would take a lot of pressure off of Alexander as well. This is a young position group, as the team will be relying heavily on the Louisville product to lead the way.

He has shown in the past that he is able to live up to the task. If Jaire Alexander can do it again in 2024, it will help this defense immensely.
