Daniel Muir had three-word motto when he went undrafted before signing for Green Bay Packers

Daniel Muir revealed what his three-word motto was when he joined the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted signing back in 2007.

The defensive lineman played collegiate football for Kent State before entering the 2007 NFL Draft. But Muir proved to be one of the rare longshots that make the final roster of an NFL team as he was named alongside fellow former undrafted player Tramon Williams in the 53-man roster for the season’s opener against Philadelphia.

Muir would go on to play three games in Dallas, Chicago and against Detroit in his rookie season, becoming the only undrafted rookie to make the roster out of training camp. During an interview with the Packers, Muir revealed the motto that he used as he attempted to break through despite being behind the likes of 16th overall draft pick Justin Harrell.

"I've got all veterans in front of me, and they're all good and capable of playing every snap," Muir said. "And you've got a first-round draft pick who's good and capable of playing every snap also. I knew it was going to be a hard road, but I just prayed and played. That's a motto I just kept in my head. 'Pray and play.' I knew if I did that, I'd be fine."

Muir was one of seven free agents signed by the Packers following the draft, including Louisiana Lafayette quarterback Jerry Babb, Southern California fullback Ryan Powdrell, Alabama linebacker Juwan Simpson, Truman State guard Pat Murray, Oklahoma defensive end Larry Birdine and Mississippi linebacker Rory Johnson.

However, Muir was waived by the Packers at the beginning of the 2008 season. He spent the next five years signing on with other NFL teams in the hope of breaking through but he was continuously waived or released. After his first Green Bay spell he joined the Indianapolis Colts, the St. Louis Rams, Colts for a second spell, Packers for a second time, the New York Jets, the Kansas City Chiefs, the Houston Texans, and lastly, the Oakland Raiders in 2013.

Muir was arrested on Wednesday and charged with domestic battery and obstruction of justice, his wife Kristin Muir has also been charged with obstruction. The couple allegedly hid their 14-year-old son Bryson from authorities after a missing person’s search began following a call from Kristin’s mom Cheryl Wright, who reported concerns that he had been abused.

Bryson was found at the Muirs family home and the couple have been taken into custody where they have been held without bond and are under a no-contact order with their son. Muir’s home in Logansport, Indiana, is listed to be owned by religious organization, The Servant Leader’s Foundation. They’re linked to the extreme religious group Straitway Truth Ministries church that have been described as a “cult” and who Muir is titled as a “Pastor” for in their Indiana chapter.
