Jordan Love guarantees Josh Jacobs won't set extremely unfortunate NFL record

One of the big reasons why the Green Bay Packers signed Josh Jacobs in free agency was the expectation that they can still take more out of him than the Las Vegas Raiders did, especially in the passing game. While Jacobs has been a premier running back for most of his NFL career, including solid receiving numbers, he is yet to score a receiving touchdown in the league. And that created an uncomfortable situation.

Jacobs has 197 career receptions for 1,448 yards. That means he's getting closer to a wildly unlucky record: the most receptions without a receiving touchdown in NFL history. The current holder is Gerald Riggs, who played for the Atlanta Falcons and Washington between 1982 and 1991. He finished his career with 201 receptions for 1,516 yards, and no receiving touchdowns.

Jacobs is only four receptions away from that, but Packers quarterback Jordan Love wants to make sure his new teammate won't reach the unfortunate record.

"No, that's not going to happen," Love told Bleacher Report. "I definitely saw that the other day. I'm surprised he doesn't have any touchdowns yet. Let's see, it's right here, 197 career receptions, zero receiving touchdowns. I sent that to him, I said, 'Bro, we're going to get you a touchdown, for sure.' First pass to him might be a touchdown, who knows. We're gonna see. Five receptions away from it? We'll make sure he gets a touchdown in there."

    Track record

Jordan Love himself hasn't thrown many touchdowns to running backs either. Before taking over as the starter, Love had three touchdown passes over his three seasons as a backup — to Allen Lazard, Josiah Deguara, and Christian Watson.

And last year, certainly affected by how frequently Aaron Jones was unavailable, Love threw just one touchdown to him — a 4th and 3 conversion to Jones in week 1 against the Chicago Bears.

Jordan Love finished the season with 32 passing touchdowns , but only that one was to a running back — AJ Dillon hasn't had any touchdown reception over the last two years.

After the money, of course, the opportunity to play in Matt LaFleur's offense was a big motivator for Jacobs to sign with the Packers. The running back mentioned earlier this offseason how more productive he can be, not only in dumpoffs, but also running routes.

"I can catch the ball more, be able to run real routes," Jacobs said. "Not just that, but trusting me enough to be able to pick up protections. It's so special when you've got a guy like Jordan Love back there, you can't really just load the box every play. You make defenses decide what they want to stop. That's going to be the biggest help for me this year."

Jordan Love and Josh Jacobs were both born in 1998. They are still young, and a close partnership can bring the Packers effective results for a long time.
