NFL Insider Offers Big Contract Update On Packers QB Jordan Love

Green bay Packers veterans report for training camp on Tuesday, but don’t expect to see quarterback Jordan Love on the field.

Packers GM Brian Gutekunst informed reporters that Love’s camp informed him the star QB wouldn’t be practicing until he signs a new contract, which according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler isn’t close to happening anytime soon.

“The vibes right now are positive, but there hasn't been a lot of production as far as getting close to a deal,” Fowler said on “NFL on ESPN” on Monday. “It's going to take a little time. When [camp begins], their negotiators and their officials are all together, [and] they're going to reconvene and try to get a plan together.

“The Packers know what the market is — it’s $50-plus million per year, GM Brian Gutekunst wants to get this done after the messy couple years with Aaron Rodgers. This one should be a little cleaner.”

Love is coming off a breakout season in which he threw for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while leading the Packers to a 9-8 season and an upset win over the Dallas Cowboys during the wild-card round of the playoffs.

Spotrac projects Love’s market value at $53 million per season, which would tie him with Detroit’s Jared Goff as the third-highest paid QB in the NFL.
