Analyst Predicts Fewer Rushes for Packers Josh Jacobs

The Green Bay Packers shook things up in their backfield during the 2024 NFL offseason. Aaron Jones was released following the signing of Josh Jacobs.

After spending the first five seasons of his career with the Las Vegas Raiders, Josh Jacobs was looking for a change of scenery. The Packers are everything he was looking for when he hit the free agent market.

Predicted to be the team’s lead back in 2024, Josh Jacobs is in for a lot of work. But, it won’t be the same kind of work he was handling in Las Vegas.

In the opinion of Nathan Jahnke of PFF, the Alabama product will be handling fewer carries with the Packers. That is just how head coach Matt LaFleur operates, as he is going to get MarShawn Lloyd and AJ Dillon involved.

However, where he will make up for those touches is in the passing game. Fantasy Football managers are going to love hearing Jahnke’s prediction for the 2024 season for Josh Jacobs.

Josh Jacobs is guaranteed to handle fewer carries per game in Green Bay than he ever did with Las Vegas. However, he should see more targets, and targets are more valuable for fantasy production.

There is still a lot of uncertainty about how running back snaps will get distributed in Green Bay. A top-five season is within the realm of possibilities if he takes the Aaron Jones role and thrives, but it’s also possible that MarShawn Lloyd outshines him and Jacobs is a bust,” Jahnke wrote.

That is a trade-off that Fantasy Football owners will love to hear. Handling fewer carries will limit some of the wear and tear on Josh Jacobs.

But, his floor and ceiling for owners will be on the rise with more involvement in the passing game. In PPR leagues, his value will be much higher if he is going to be in line to set career highs as a receiver.

If he slides into the Aaron Jones role, Josh Jacobs will provide Fantasy Football managers with a lot of value. But, if he looks like he did in 2023 with limited production, he will lose work to the other running backs.
