The Green Bay Packers made a massive change this offseason to their backfield. They signed running back Josh Jacobs away from the Las Vegas Raiders, opting for him over long-time contributor Aaron Jones.

Josh Jacobs is a few years younger than Jones, as age certainly played a part in the team’s decision to make a change. He more closely fits the timeline of the other players on a very young Packers offense.

Despite turning only 26 years old in February, Josh Jacobs is going to be one of the oldest and most tenured NFL players on the roster. Compared to his peers on offense, he has vastly more experience in the pros.

Last season, the Packers were the youngest team in the NFL and there is a chance they repeat that in 2024. Outside of the Alabama product, fellow running back AJ Dillon and tight end Tyler Davis are the only skill position players that have NFL experience beyond a rookie contract.

This puts Josh Jacobs in a different position than he was in with the Raiders. He will be relied upon as a leader for the younger players and it is a role that he is looking forward to fulfilling.

“I’m one of the oldest guys on the team. I don’t take that really lightly.

Coming in and you’re seeing these guys, especially these young receivers on the cusp of being a players in this league, and being the face and being in a household staple, and being able to help guide them and teach them little things about what I do or what I see to help them elevate their game to the next level.

I think that’s a part of the reason why they brought me in here,” Jacobs said during an exclusive interview with NFL.com.

A leadership role isn’t for everyone, but it is something that Josh Jacobs is embracing. He knows how much potential this team has and he wants to do his part to make sure that potential is met.

Matt LaFleur has said that their new running back will be heavily involved in the game plan. If he can produce closer to what he provided the Raiders in 2022 than in 2023, this offense will be one of the best in the NFL.
