Packers give QB Jordan Love the largest signing bonus in NFL history

The record-breaking deal agreed upon by quarterback Jordan Love and the Green Bay Packers features a historic signing bonus.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Packers will pay Love a $75 million signing bonus, the biggest ever given to an NFL player.

The $75 million beats the $73 million signing bonus paid to quarterback Jared Goff by the Detroit Lions earlier this offseason.

The Packers use large signing bonuses in almost all veteran contracts. While paid up front to the player, the value is prorated on the salary cap across the life of the contract — helping even the cap hit.

The Love deal is worth $220 million over four seasons, or $55 million per year, tying another record for an NFL quarterback. Deals for Trevor Lawrence and Joe Burrow also averaged $55 million per year.

The four-year extension means Love is under contract with the Packers through 2028.

Adding in the signing bonus, Love’s contract features $155 million guaranteed.

Love is in Green Bay but didn’t participate during the team’s first four training camp practices, but the Packers are back at practice on Saturday morning. Expect to see Love, who is now the NFL’s highest paid player in terms of average salary and signing bonus, on the field and participating at Ray Nitschke Field.
