Just six days after handing over a new $220 million contract to franchise QB Jordan Love, the Green Bay Packers had fans and media in a frenzy again on Thursday.

After teasing "a whiteout is coming" on Wednesday night, the team debuted its new all-white alternate helmet on August 1.

The Packers will don the new all-white combination on October 20, their Week 7 home game against the Houston Texans. The team has dubbed the highly anticipated matchup a "Winter Warning" game, calling on fans in attendance to "unite and wear white" to Lambeau Field to "create a blizzard-like effect."

Shortly after the announcement, social media erupted with polarizing reactions to Green Bay's rare uniform tweak.

"The haters can have a good cry. Love this," wrote CheeseheadTV's Aaron Nagler.

Other longtime supporters are keeping things in perspective, as the whiteout uniform will be worn for only one of Green Bay's 17 regular season games in 2024.

Andy Herman of the "Pack-A-Day Podcast" was among those in the middle: "The Packers have the most perfect jerseys in the world. I love the home jerseys. Love the away jerseys. ... The all whites… meh. It feels slightly off to me. But tons of people will love it and that’s awesome."

When it comes to what Green Bay could have done differently, suggestions ranged from keeping some of the traditional gold trim to choosing a gray color instead.

"This is what the Packers white alternate helmet should have looked like," one account shared.

"They took all the gold out of the helmets but kept the gold stripes on the uniform and pants, which looks really odd, in my opinion. It's like a mashup of Packers and Jets," USA Today's Zach Kruse wrote.

According to Kruse, though, many inside the Packers' locker room are strongly in favor of the change.

"I think it's cool," LaFleur told reporters after practice on August 1. "I think it's awesome. It'll bring some juice to the locker room...the guys really like them."
