Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love.

The Green Bay Packers emerged as somewhat of a surprise last season when they went from 2-5 to a club that nearly defeated the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round of the playoffs.

NFL insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated recently spent time with the Packers during training camp and suggested quarterback Jordan Love will only build upon what he achieved in his first campaign as Green Bay's full-time starter after he signed a four-year, $220M deal this summer.

"Jordan Love keeps getting better," Breer mentioned on Thursday. "The progress he’s made in setting protections, from where he was as a rookie, has been monumental. This summer, for the first time, the Packers are tasking him with play-calling in the two-minute offense. And he’s becoming more assertive as a leader and showing real command with his teammates..."

According to Pro Football Reference, Love finished the 2023 regular season ranked ninth in the NFL among qualified players with a 62.1 adjusted QBR, 11th with a 96.1 passer rating, second with 32 passing touchdowns, seventh with 4,159 yards through the air, and ninth with a 47.6% passing success rate.

Breer pointed out Love isn't the only noteworthy Green Bay offensive player impressing during summer workouts.

"The young receiver group is exciting, and the guy who might be taking the biggest step forward is third-year man Romeo Doubs," Breer added. "His confidence and knowledge of the offense is apparent in how hard he’s running routes and through the ball. And it’s an example of how a group of young receivers — Dontayvion Wicks, Jayden Reed and Christian Watson — is competing."

Per ESPN stats, Doubs ended Week 18 this past January second among Packers players with 59 receptions, first with 96 targets, second with 674 receiving yards, and tied for the team lead with eight touchdown catches.

As of Friday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook listed the Packers fifth among the betting favorites at +800 odds to represent the NFC in Super Bowl LIX. If Love takes the type of leap many expect through this coming winter, he could do more than simply play on the final Sunday of the next postseason tournament.
