Adams has NYPD playing whack-a-mole as crime drops in subway, rises on the street
Mayor Adams was rightly bragging last week that subway crime is down. But New Yorkers, just as rightly, couldn’t get too excited: Above ground, core Manhattan below Central Park is having a bloody summer. The juxtaposition illustrates how New York’s public-safety resources are stretched thin, something Adams has never...
Beloved NYC venue The Bell House now being run by Live Nation
Brooklyn venue The Bell House has been bought out by the Live Nation corporation and some fans are worried that could mean up-and-coming performers will be squeezed out. Opened in a former Gowanus printing press warehouse in 2008, the Bell House was previously independently owned and known for showcasing a range of comedians and storytellers, with many getting their initial break at the venue.
It’s last call for iconic Midtown bar Neary’s
Neary’s, the wonderful pub that Jimmy Neary launched at 348 E. 57th St. in 1967, closed its doors on Friday for the last time. Not surprisingly, it’s been called the end of an era. But while I’m sad to lose Neary’s fabled Irish coffee and lamb chops, I couldn’t care less about the era.
