SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Duke Energy has selected the route for a new power line in a rural Upstate community.

The area impacted is located off Highway 417 in the Green Pond area of Spartanburg County.

Duke Energy is planning to add transmission lines and a new substation to the area they said is rapidly growing. The company is calling the plan the Big Ferguson Infrastructure Improvement Project.

The new route will cut the community in half and calls for nearly four and a half miles of a new power line. The line will lead to the substation near Green Pond Baptist Church, Duke Energy said.

7NEWS previously reported that the project has been in the works since September 2022 but residents in the area have continued to shut down the idea. Green Pond residents said the location of the substation is their biggest issue with the proposed project.

Duke Energy said the installment is needed to accommodate the growth in the area.
