Oakley’s first July 4 pickleball tournament billed as Summit County’s largest
Two hundred eighty-five players registered for the tournament, which runs July 5 and 6. The city is hosting the event at the 12 outdoor pickleball courts at the Oakley Recreation/Rodeo Complex. Built last summer, the complex is the largest dedicated pickleball facility in Summit County. In a press release, Oakley City claims the tournament is also the largest ever held in the county.
Fund launched for Indigenous students in STEM following missing professor’s death in Cache County
LOGAN — A new scholarship fund was launched Tuesday in honor of a decorated STEM educator, Megan Hamilton, who recently died. Hamilton was reported missing and endangered by the Riverdale Police Department on June 25, 2024. Later that day, authorities located her body. They said there was no indication of foul play, and they believed she was suffering from a “mental episode.”

Locals Shine at Diamond Mountain Speedway
On June 28-29, locals from the Carbon and Emery areas traveled to Vernal for a weekend at the Diamond Mountain Speedway. At the event, “Racing for a Cause” recognized the military with “Salute to our Heroes.” The Hobby Stock race was also dedicated to Matt Johnson in the memorial race. RICHMOND – Jake Larsen is part of the Gen Z generation and he wants to work at a job despite his limited abilities. The 19-year-old is wheelchair bound. He was born with spina bifida, but he doesn’t let that slow him down. He goes after life with gusto. Early on he wanted to earn his own money and went looking for a job. He found one at Big J’s located at 190 S 200 W. in Richmond. It was in 2020 during the pandemic and he has been working there ever since.

Another arrest from Peoa party shootout
A 25-year-old West Valley City man was arrested last week, making him the fifth adult to be apprehended in connection to a large shootout at a Peoa party in mid-May. Jose Carlo Mendez-Villa was taken into custody by Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Thursday for five felony counts of discharging a firearm. He was not formally charged as of Tuesday morning, but he was being held in the Summit County Jail without bail.
