GREENBACK, Tenn. (WATE) — Students at Greenback School built a house as part of a residential building class. The project, which began in September 2023, was completed after months of hard work.

“I couldn’t be any prouder, I’m so proud of the house and the product they produced,” Residential building teacher Gray Williams said. “This house is theirs, it’s something they can puff their chest out and say ‘I built that house right there when I was in high school.’ The pride that they take in their work especially at their age and in today’s society it helps out for them to be the way they are.”

Cade Breedlove, a Sophomore at Greenback, was one of the students who helped build the house. He said he was happy with how the house turned out.

“I take a lot of pride in the house because we did everything beside the foundation, so we built it all the way up,” Breedlove said. “I take a lot of pride in seeing the finished product and seeing how good it looks. It’s going to sell and we will be able to make a profit.”

The house will be up for auction on Saturday at the Greenback School football field. Auctioneer Josh Moore says he was pleasantly surprised when he first saw the house.

“I walked in the house, and I was pretty amazed,” Moore said. “Most of the time a building trades class, they’ll build something like this it’s usually not finished, usually stud walls and the exterior is finished. You walk through this home and it’s beautiful, fully furnished with LG electronics in the kitchen, the floors, I mean it’s a really, really nice house.”

The home is just over 1,400 sqft. with three bedrooms and two bathrooms and was entirely built by students.

All money raised by Saturday’s auction will to the residential building class so they can begin another house project.
