Grant funding available for Greene County nonprofits

Charitable organizations serving Greene County have additional opportunities for grants from the Greene County Community Foundation thanks to a generous contribution to their community grantmaking fund from the Frank and Lou Shackelford Family Foundation.

An additional $8,250 will be available to organizations, more than doubling last year’s grants total, the foundation announced.

GCCF, an affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation, will award $16,500 in grants to charitable organizations through its community grantmaking fund and the Clarence H. and Florence Moye Memorial Fund.

Grants from GCCF typically range from $500 to $1,500. Applications opened to charitable organizations on Friday and close at noon on Aug. 20. Organizations must apply for grants using NCCF’s online application system.

“We’re grateful to the Shackelford family for their gift which allows us to increase our investment in the Greene County community this year,” said Michael Rhodes, GCCF advisory board president. “We strongly encourage all eligible organizations to apply for grants this summer.”

The Greene County Community Foundation is led by the local volunteer advisory board that helps build community assets through the creation of permanent endowments, makes grants and leverages leadership for the benefit of Greene County.

In addition to Rhodes, board members include Ray Holloman (vice president), Susan Beaman (secretary/treasurer), Bobby Brown, Trey Cash, Erika Churchill, Rick Davis, Vanessa Hardy, Stephen Kearney and Christie Mozingo.

The North Carolina Community Foundation brings together generous people and connects them to causes and organizations they care about, with a focus on inspiring lasting and meaningful philanthropy in the state’s rural communities.

With $400 million in assets, it sustains over 1,200 endowments and partners with donors and a network of affiliates in 60 counties. It has awarded over $270 million since 1988.
