Memorial ride held to honor Morgantown police officer one year after his death
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (KDKA) - Just a little over a year after his death, Morgantown Police Officer Zane Breakiron was honored on Saturday during the first-ever memorial ride in his name. Officer Breakiron, who was originally from the Laurel Highlands, died in a crash while he was off-duty last June. The ride was hosted at the Carmicheals American Legion in Greene County and it featured a 100-plus mile ride, a spaghetti dinner, raffles, and live entertainment. Organizers of the memorial ride said that it was all about making sure their fallen friend and son would not be forgotten. "Today, we wanted to honor Zane's memory," said Sean Anker, the organizer of the ride. "We're going to make this an annual ride, and we're just gonna make sure Zane's name is forever enshrined and never forgotten." All of the proceeds from Saturday's event will go toward multiple charities selected by the Breakiron family. The 34-year-old was about to celebrate seven years with the Morgantown Police Department in West Virginia as a patrol officer first class and K9 handler when he died in the crash while traveling along Route 43, somewhere between the Cheat Lake exit and the Pennsylvania border.
Update: Tornado warning affecting Greene County Wednesday night
On Wednesday at 8:39 p.m. an updated tornado warning was issued by the National Weather Service in effect until 9 p.m. for Greene County. "At 8:39 p.m., a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located near Point Marion, or 8 miles north of Star City, moving east at 45 mph," says the weather service. "Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter. Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely."

JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) -- One person is dead and several others are injured following a two-motorcycle crash in Greene County on Saturday.Police say they were called to N 88 Road in Jefferson Township, where 60-year-old David Tretinik of Clarksville, and a passenger, were riding along as part of a convoy when a deer jumped into the road.Unable to get out of the way in time, Tretinik hit the deer and lost control, falling into the path of another motorcycle that hit Tretinik, killing him, before the second bike lost control.The passenger of Tretinik's bike, with the driver and passenger of the other motorcycle, were also treated for injuries.
