Former Greene County teacher from Rogersville pleads guilty to aggravated statutory rape
A former West Greene High School teacher entered a guilty plea Monday in Greene County Criminal Court to one count of aggravated statutory rape involving a student. Jacob C. Deal, 44, of Rogersville, was indicted in 2023 by a Greene County Grand Jury on three counts of statutory rape by an authority figure and three counts of aggravated statutory rape in connection with incidents in 2021.

NWS: Drought conditions to worsen
Drought conditions creeping into the Lakeway Area are likely to worsen over the next two weeks, according to the National Weather Service in Morristown. The July 2 Drought Monitor listed moderate drought conditions in northern Greene and northeastern Hawkins counties.
Decomposing body found in Greeneville culvert
A decomposing body was found lying in a culvert in Greene County Saturday and the cause of death is under investigation. According to Captain Tim Davis, the Greeneville Police Department responded to the 1700 block of Moore Avenue around 11:20 a.m., Saturday to a call of a possible dead body lying in a culvert.
