GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Town of Greeneville hosted its 12th annual American Downtown Celebration on Saturday to kick off the Fourth of July holiday.

The celebration kicked off with family-friendly activities. Three bands performed and there were various food vendors.

“We also have inflatables for the kids, sidewalk chalk, we’ve got balloons we’ve got bubbles, we have all kinds of things for them,” Christina Potts with the Town of Greeneville said.

Potts said the celebration had something for everyone to enjoy.

“My favorite part of being here is watching the fireworks and being with friends and family,” Destiny Arwood said.

Arwood said she has rheumatoid arthritis and struggles to get around, but loves celebrating Independence Day.

Another part of the festivities was the parade with the theme “Thank You for Your Service,” in honor of veterans, active service members and first responders.

“It gives us an opportunity to show my kids what it’s about to be a proud American,” Danni Smith said. “And I mean, while the festivities are fun, it’s an opportunity to explain to them what the 4th of July actually is.”

Potts said the town decided to have this celebration early, so everyone can enjoy the Fourth of July holiday.

Many folks stayed until after the parade for the fireworks show, ending the celebration with a big bang.
