GREENEVILLE, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Greeneville Municipal Airport will close for maintenance for a short period of time starting on Aug. 12.

Three projects will be conducted at the airport over the next month.

“One of them is a statewide pavement resealing project, they are doing cracks, sealing, pavement sealing and redoing the markings on the runway,” said airport manager Angela Alley. “All to extend the life of the pavement for the airport.”

Alley told News Channel 11 that during this project nobody will be able to use the runway but she hopes it will only be closed for 7-10 days.

“Another project that’s being done in conjunction with that is displacing a threshold, so they’re moving the threshold from one of the approaches of the runway, in a little bit,” Alley said. “So we’re losing about 500 feet on that end due to trees that have broken up into the flight path.”

The project could impact people who store their planes at the airport because the third project involves construction work to the tee hangers on site.

“Then we’re having some pavement redone around our three older tee hangars,” Alley said. “They’re actually digging up all the pavement around those hangars and replacing it.”

Overall, Alley said she hopes the three projects will only take 45 days.
