River Riders drop series opener to Johnson City
The Elizabethton River Riders dropped their fifth game in a row on Saturday in the series opener to the Johnson City Doughboys, 5-3. Elizabethton (14-25) jumped out to an early lead against Johnson City (19-18) after Nick Hockemeyer (Purdue Fort Wayne) singled in the second to score two. Hockemeyer finished the night with one hit and two RBIs.

BUNCOMBE COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — Buncombe County deputies renewed calls for information about a missing man who hasn't been heard from in a year. In a news release on Friday, July 12, 2024, the sheriff's office says 26-year-old Tyler Ashby was last seen leaving his Candler home exactly one year ago wearing black sweatpants and a shirt.
Lions claim eighth AVCA Team Academic Award
LEXINGTON, Ky. - A record number of volleyball programs have earned the AVCA Team Academic Award sponsored by INTENT. More than 1,400 collegiate and high school volleyball programs maintained a year-long grade-point average of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale (or 4.1 on a 5.0 scale), to earn the award for their classroom excellence during the recently completed academic year.

State offering $2 million in grants for historic restoration/rehab projects
NASHVILLE — The Tennessee Historical Commission announced a new grant to help cover the cost of restoring National Register-listed historic properties in the state. Overall, $2 million is available from the Historic Property/Land Acquisition Fund (HPLAF) Grant Program this year. Applications are open now through Aug. 31. Renew Clinic hosted its third annual fundraiser, Shining Light in the Darkness, on July 18, 2024, at the Foundry, with over 200 attendees to celebrate. During this unprecedented occasion, Williamson College President Dr. Ed Smith delivered a message of hope for graduates to earn college credit for completing Renew Clinic’s 12-week program and a 50% scholarship for graduates and their family members at Williamson College.
