Plains School staff members spent last Thursday practicing new emergency procedures.With the help of an ESSER funding grant, Plains Public School has purchased an app called Emergent 3. The app, designed with public education in mind, provides instant notifications to each computer and staff members phones of any type of emergency ranging from fire, earthquakes, intruder/violent behavior and building evacuations. The Emergent 3 app allows staff members to manage any emergency the school may encounter. Helena, East Helena public schools may adopt stricter cellphone policies
Helena and East Helena schools may consider stricter cellphone policies after Gov. Greg Gianforte urged schools statewide to go “cellphone-free.”. The governor released the message Thursday, days before Helena and East Helena’s start dates. An overwhelming 97% of teen students use their phones during school, he cites from nonprofit Common Sense Media, and the teens receive 50 notifications on average per school day.

During the growing season, community members can donate extra bounty from their gardens to Land to Hand’s new community produce fridge in Whitefish. Anyone can stop by the fridge and enjoy the donated local produce at no cost. The organization stocks the fridge with extra produce from programs and whatever else the community donates.
