Greensboro says goodbye to The Green Bean coffee shop; Chandler’s opening in space

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — The business at 341 S. Elm St. in Greensboro is getting a new name under new ownership.

According to a Facebook post by Chandler’s GSO, Sunday is the last day the building will say “The Green Bean.”

“While we cannot wait to share Chandler’s with you all; it is bittersweet saying goodbye to a Greensboro ‘staple,'” the post says.

The location will now be Chandler’s, an eatery owned by Josh and Alexis Chandler offering coffee and alcoholic beverages. It is set to open July 3.

The Green Bean, which first opened in 2002, had undergone numerous changes over the last year leading to its final closing.

The Green Bean closed on Sept. 9, 2023, after all the employees of then-owner Amy Foresman walked out, citing pay issues and inadequate ownership, according to the Triad City Beat .

In November 2023, TCB reported that Amy Foresman had sold the business to her son Caleb Foresman and his wife Lilou, who reopened the coffee shop.

Months later, the Foresmans sold the business to the Chandlers.

Chandler’s will still have a touch of Green Bean, though. The post also states that the second owner of The Green Bean, Katie Southard, will be one of the baristas there several days a week. The walls will be decorated with art by the original owner Peter Schroth.

“We hope to bring back all that was & hold the space for our community to come together,” the post says.
