BEAUFORT, N.C. (WNCT) — On Thursday, the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office assisted the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations (NCSBI) and Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) for an arrest.

The warrant was for Corey Ray Jones from Greensboro. Reynolds was wanted by the Greensboro Police Department due to statutory rape and indecent liberties with a minor. VCAT was informed that Reynolds have traveled to Carteret County and was staying with family in Newport.

VCAT made contact with him at the residence around mid-morning to come out and speak to them. He refused to come outside and cut off all communication. After several hours with no communication or contact with Reynolds, NCSBI Special Response Team was called for help.

The Response Team made their way into the residence where they then found Reynolds deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
