GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — The Millennial Campus is starting to take shape at UNCG, and two unique districts will emphasize creativity across disciplines and within the campus and community.

“Not only does creativity cut across all different parts of life, creativity is not something that is relegated to an artist or musician,” said Juliette Bianco, associate vice chancellor for museums and creative practice.

The Millennial Campus will be made up of two areas, a health and wellness district and a visual and performing arts district. The visual and performing arts district will be based around Tate Street, a central piece of the UNCG community, and home to numerous theaters and creative spaces.

North Carolina A&T State University is America’s most affordable doctoral research school, Money magazine says

“Entrepreneurship, studying medicine, computer science, thinking about how to use innovative technology to solve bigger problems, they’re all expressions of human creativity,” said Bianco.

The goal is to open up more spaces for collaboration and creativity in a familiar space. Leaders hope by doing this, they’ll create more holistic students and community members. That could happen in the existing spaces on campus, or inside of new ones.

“We are hoping that creating a space that is so welcoming to the community will help fuel future development of the district and help us be purposeful of what it is that we do want to do based on participation,” said Bianco.

The vision starts at the corner of Gate City Boulevard and Tate Street, with Jean Tannenbaum Center for Creative Practice. Leaders are finalizing the plans for the space but early renderings show theater spaces, meeting rooms, studio officers and a digital lab.

“It’s being purpose-built to spark innovative collaborations, interdisciplinary exchange and will really be a place where students, faculty and the community can come together and think about some of the questions, problems and ideas that are sparking how we might want to change the world,” said Bianco.

They are changing the world, one spark of creativity at a time.

“We are acting today and thinking about and anticipating the needs of tomorrow,” said Bianco.

Construction on the Jean Tannenbaum Center for Creative Practice is slated to start later this year or early next year, wrapping up and opening by mid-2026.
