GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — Rodney Myers has been trying to catch a Delta Airlines flight from the Piedmont Triad International Airport to Minnesota for a work trip, but last week’s computer glitch meant he hit a roadblock.
“I understand that it happens, but it also shows how dependent we are on software,” Myers said.
On the flight information board inside the airport, two flights to Atlanta were canceled Tuesday evening.
Some passengers who did make it back to the Triad said the return home wasn’t easy, including Greensboro native Jonel Howard.
The outage started last Thursday night after a faulty software upgrade from cybersecurity company CrowdStrike to more than 8 million Microsoft computers around the world.
Since the outage started, Delta has canceled more than 6,600 flights, including nearly 500 on Tuesday by midday on the East Coast.
The cancelations prompted an investigation into the airline company by Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to make sure the carrier is following federal laws and taking care of passengers during the disruption.
Delta Airlines released a statement that reads in part:
“Across our operation, Delta teams are working tirelessly to care for and make it right for customers impacted by delays and cancellations as we work to restore the reliable, on-time service they have come to expect from Delta.”
While Delta tries to get back on track, Myers says he doesn’t want to hear the excuses. He wants to see action.
“We’re supposed to have been at a meeting in Minneapolis, and we’ve got colleagues that are just not going to be able to make the trip,” Myers said.
There’s no telling when the issues may be fixed.
FOX8 reached out to a spokesperson for PTI for any tips for travelers dealing with Delta Airlines. They encourage passengers to frequently check their flight status.
