    School board chooses savings over history

    GUILFORD COUNTY — Although some residents of a Greensboro neighborhood expressed a strong sentimental attachment to a nearly 100-year-old school’s architecture, Guilford County taxpayers can’t afford the steps that would be needed to preserve it, the school board decided Tuesday night.

    Lindley Elementary parents and residents living near the school had been loudly advocating for months to save the historic 1928 building, but most backed away from a building renovation after an architect’s presentation last month showed that keeping the building would cost nearly $20 million more than tearing it down and building all-new.
