City of Salina declares abandoned hotel a dangerous structure
SALINA, Kan. (KAKE) - The Salina City Commission has declared an abandoned hotel as a 'dangerous structure.'. Nate King with Salina Post reports that the Commission voted 4-0 to designate the former 192-room hotel at 1616 West Crawford as a dangerous structure, forcing property owner Joshua Joseph of Andrea Investments, LLC to either repair or demolish the property within a certain timeframe.
Newton to reduce mill rate in 2025 budget
NEWTON, Kan. — At Tuesday night’s meeting, the Newton City Commission approved a not-to-exceed budget for publication that includes a 1-mill reduction in the tax rate. Newton’s assessed valuation rose by 12.7% for next year, a large increase after many years of relatively stagnant growth. With the mill levy reduction, the City will take in revenue equivalent to an 11% increase in valuation.
