LIVINGSTON PARISH, La. ( KLFY ) — Two people died early Sunday after a pontoon boat and a Sea Fox boat collided on the Tickfaw River near Kings Point, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries said.

The bodies of Thuy Gustin, 31, of Springfield, and Chase Sharkey, 36, of Greensburg, were recovered from the Tickfaw River on July 28 after they were involved in a fatal boating collision.

Wildlife and Fisheries was alerted of the incident around 12:17 a.m. Sunday. Authorities said they arrived on scene, the 25-foot pontoon boat was heavily damaged and the 25-foot Sea Fox boat was capsized.

Gustin, who was a passenger on the Sea Fox, was trapped under the capsized vessel, authorities said, but an agent and another individual were able to jump into the water and retrieve her body. She was taken to North Oaks Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

Sharkey’s body was recovered from the Tickfaw River around 12:45 p.m., LDWF said.
The Livingston Parish Sheriff’s Office and the Springfield Fire Department helped with the search.

Three people on the Sea Fox and three people on the pontoon boat were taken to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, authorities said.

Wildlife and Fisheries said they will be leading the investigation of the fatal boating incident.

The cause of the crash is unknown as of early Monday afternoon, authorities said.

Wildlife and Fisheries said six people were on the Sea Fox and seven people were on the pontoon boat at the time of the crash. No one was wearing a personal flotation device, authorities said.
