Bluey Bash kicks off summer reading

The Greenville-Butler County Public Library launched its summer reading program with a lively Bluey Bash on June 29. Children enjoyed crafts and activities inspired by the beloved character Bluey before gathering for story time.

Kevin Pearcey, the library’s executive director, read “Bluey and the Fruit Bat” to an eager audience.

“We had a lot of fun,” Pearcey said. “Bluey is a very popular character, and we knew that having them here would draw a good turnout. We love when parents and children come out for whatever we have at the library. This was a great way to kick off our summer reading, which starts not next week but the week after.”

After the story, children were thrilled by a special appearance from Bluey and her sister Bingo, who mingled with the attendees and posed for pictures. Cupcakes and refreshments added to the festive atmosphere.

Following the meet and greet, glow sticks and bracelets were handed out, setting the stage for a glow-in-the-dark dance party.

Regular library visitor Anedra Hood, accompanied by her two-year-old twins Harlan and Hagan, praised the library’s engaging activities.

“We come to the library twice a week for Toddler Tuesday and Movement in the Morning,” Hood said. “They also have events at least once a month on Saturdays for kids to learn about the library and read. My kids are very shy, and they’ve really opened up since joining the programs. We came today because my kids love Bluey, and we wanted to see them.”

Hood also emphasized the library’s positive impact on the community.

“It’s great because it’s free, so people who wouldn’t normally have the opportunity get to participate,” Hood said.
