SouthernCare welcomes Kilcrease as hospice physician

SouthernCare in Greenville is welcoming a new staff member, a Brantley native who will enhance services to the local area.

Dr. Clint Kilcrease is currently an attending physician at the Crenshaw Community Hospital in Luverne. He works alongside Dr. Charles Tompkins at Family Practice Associates. Now, he will practice in Greenville too as a SouthernCare Hospice Services in Greenville physician, performing hospice and end-of-life care.

“Dr. Kilcrease is a hometown physician from Crenshaw County and knows the patients in his community. He understands the importance that quality hospice care can provide to a patient and their families during one of their most difficult times,” said Felicia Killough, the registered nurse (RN) administrator for SouthernCare in Greenville. “Hospice isn’t just for the patient, but also for the patient’s families that are having to go through this difficult time with them, and that’s why we are here.”

Kilcrease graduated high school from Brantley school before earning a Biomedical degree from Troy University and completing medical school at University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB). Then, he completed his residency in Montgomery.

The physician said he knew, even as a young man, that he wanted to return to his hometown and provide healthcare services to residents in the surrounding area.

“I guess I’ve always had an interest in it from early on in high school, anatomy and physiology kind of piqued my interest early on,” Kilcrease said. “It wasn’t until I worked in the ER for a few years as an emergency room patient care tech that kind of solidified that. That love of patient care and I think that kind of solidified it and ultimately led me to apply to medical school.”

SouthernCare provides a variety of hospice services which include providing emotional support and respite care to their clients and families, pain and symptom management and bereavement care to support clients’ families through their loss.

While Kilcrease will be on-site in Greenville, most of his time will be dedicated to serving patients who reside in Butler and Crenshaw County.

Kilcrease said his addition to the SouthernCare staff has been in the works since late last year. SouthernCare his position in early June on social media and Kilcrease said he is excited to get started.

“It’s a blessing, there’s no question about it,” Kilcrease said. “[With] a lot of these patients, we develop relationships early on and we take care of them for the majority of if not close to all their lives. It’s a blessing to be able to be there at the end as well and kind of provide that care.”
