Summer sounds kick off in Greenville

The Greenville Area Chamber of Commerce launched its annual Summertime Concert Series on July 11 at Few Street Park in downtown Greenville. The event, which runs every Thursday through the second week of August, is a free celebration filled with music, games, and family fun.

“This is the first one for this year,” said Chamber of Commerce Director Tracy Salter. “We’ll do it every Thursday night through the second Thursday of August. So we’ll have a different group or person performing each week. Next week is Caleb Luckie.”

The opening night featured local musicians Kevin Pearcey and Curk Mosley, entertaining a crowd that enjoyed oversized children’s games like Connect Four and checkers, bubbles, a balloon artist, and face painting.

“We just want to encourage activity down here. People can even go to the grill and get their food and bring it over,” Salter added.

Resident Matt Shephard praised the event, noting that such community events are hard to come by.

“I think it’s rare that you can find something like this in a town anywhere anymore,” Shephard said. “That you can just show up and enjoy. You’ve got games and balloon figures, good barbecue and great music. Kids are running around and everyone is having a good time. It’s awesome.”

Next week, the event promises even more attractions with the addition of two food trucks joining Papa Bo’s barbecue — Camellia Sweet Treats offering shaved ice and Groovy Glaze Co. mini donuts. Salter emphasized the community aspect.

“It’s sponsored by the chamber and the city and we just want people to come out and enjoy it.”

Last year, the concert series was limited to July, but due to its success and public demand, it has been extended to run through early August this year. With its family-friendly activities and local musical talent, the Summertime Concert Series is poised to become a Greenville summer tradition.
