The rare trip to Kansas City is special for Cubs pitching coach Tommy Hottovy — and he makes sure to make the most of it. Hottovy, a Kansas Citian, grew up cheering on the hometown Royals, watching the great teams of the 1980s, led by George Brett. His family...

’24 may be the year of inclement weather as the “Blue Tornado” look poised to make a charge. Class 4A is a tough one to pick as it is, like last season, among the deeper classifications with good teams located all over the commonwealth. Paducah Tilghman has tremendous talent and Boyle County may boast the best overall football player in the ’25 graduating class. Covington Catholic lost a ton, but they are the Colonels (after all) which means they are always formidable. This is a deep, deep level of competition and winning this classification is significant.

FIRST WARN FORECAST: Few isolated storms this weekend, extreme heat returns soon
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The extreme heat will soon be the main weather story in Kansas and Missouri next week, but for the weekend, temperatures won’t be too bad. We do have to watch for a few more pop-up showers and thunderstorms out there. As we get closer to sunset Saturday evening, the showers/rumbles should die off. Sunday, a few pop-ups in the afternoon and evening will be possible again. Highs on Sunday will be near 90, with high humidity. This won’t be too bad compared to what is in store this next week. An Excessive Heat Watch goes into effect on Monday afternoon and will last through Thursday evening for some of our Kansas counties. More of the KCTV viewing area will likely be added into some sort of heat alert as we get closer. The extreme heat will bring highs in the mid to upper 90s to the area, with heat index values as hot as 110+ degrees at times. A front will reset our temperatures at least a little bit for next weekend with the lower 90s. Still, expect tough heat day after day. A good reminder that it is the heart of summer. Starting Monday, please avoid strenuous outdoor activities in the heart of the afternoon and early evening, this is the time frame with the higher heat illness risk.
