Get out the vote
The Pitt County NAACP will hold its GOTV Rally at 6 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18, at Zion Chapel Free Will Baptist Church, 377 Planters St., Ayden. It will feature candidates, a call to action and music. Bishop Antonio Blow will be the guest speaker. The rally is a nonpartisan event.
Greene Senior Center
The Greene County Senior Center, 104 Greenridge Road, is holding special workshops and activities in February including chair yoga classes at 2 p.m. every Thursday. Blood pressure and blood sugar checks start at 10 a.m. on Feb. 21; black history presentations are open to the public at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Feb. 22; free hearing screenings are by appointment starting at 9 a.m. Feb. 27; and a presentation on Medicare scams and fraud is 11 a.m. on Feb. 29. Black history program
St. James AME Zion Church, 403 W. Harper St., Snow Hill, will host Greene County Past and Present to celebrate black history at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18. The event is open to the public. The Rev. William McDow is the pastor.
Black Composers concert
The Pitt Community College Music Department presents it’s annual Black Composers Concert at 7 p.m. on Feb. 20 at Koinonia Christian Center, 1405 S.W. Greenville Blvd. This concert will feature the PCC Symphony Orchestra, the PCC Choral, the PCSECHS Choir, and special guests the Eastern Youth Orchestras. Antiques Show and Tell
The Pitt County Historical Society will offer its annual Antiques “Show & Tell” at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 18, at Red Banks Church, 2601 E. Fire Tower Road, Greenville. A panel of antiques dealers and enthusiasts will offer insight into the provenance, usage, and collectability of oddities, treasures and any other antiques people wish to share. Attendees who wish to bring items to the event should meet the panel at 1 p.m. The number of items submitted per person is limited to 2, and no items may be submitted after the panelists begin their discussion.
Pancake fundraiser
Reedy Branch OFW Church, 4457 Reedy Branch Road, Winterville, will host a Pancake Dinner fundraiser from 5-6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 1. Cost is $8 per plate. Eat in or take out.
Farmville Senior Council
The Farmville Senior Council, which has been a nonprofit since 1979, meets the third Wednesday of the month at the Farmville Public Library, 4276 W. Church St., Farmville. Spring Sports
Greene County Parks and Recreation is registering participants in spring sports from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday through Feb. 26 in the lobby of the Wellness Center, 84 N. Perry Drive. Unnatural Resources Fair

The Friends of Sheppard Memorial Library’s 33rd annual Used Book Sale will begin with a members-only event from 5-8 p.m. Feb. 29 at Greenville Convention Center, 303 S.W. Greenville Blvd. Memberships are available at the door or online at sheppardlibrary.org. The book sale will be open to the general public from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. March 1, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. March 2 and noon-3:30 p.m. March 3.
Senior Center farmers market
Vendors from the Leroy James Farmers Market plus more will be at the Pitt County Senior Center, at 4551 County Home Road, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through February while the market is closed.
Recreation grants
Pitt County Government is accepting applications for its Recreation Program Management Funds, which are available to support and enhance the delivery of recreation programs open to all county residents. The funds require a 50/50 match from the applicant. Applications are available in the Community Schools and Recreation Center, 4561 County Home Road, and at www.pittcountync.gov/formslibrary or www.pittscr.com. The submission deadline is 5 p.m. Jan. 29.
NCECA Scholarship
High school seniors, full-time college students and adults wanting to attend college are eligible for the North Carolina Extension & Community Association Scholarship. State residents planning to attend a North Carolina college, community college or technical institute in the fall of 2024 may apply. The scholarship deadline is Feb. 1. Hospice volunteers
3HC is seeking volunteers for its hospice program. Volunteers provide support to caregivers, offer companionship to patients and take part in meaningful activities. They also can offer spiritual support, administrative and clerical support, take part in special events and fundraising activities and assist the Wings Program for Grieving Children or the Veterans to Veteran program. Residents of Greene, Pitt, Beaufort or Lenoir counties who would like to spend time with patients and their families in need can email volunteer coordinator Nena Ellis at nellis@3hc.org.
Vaccines
The Greene County Department of Public Health is offering COVID vaccines Monday through Friday by appointment for people 6 months and older. To schedule, call 747-8181. If you receive Blue Cross Blue Shield North Carolina, North Carolina State Health Plan or Medicaid, bring your card. Medicare not accepted at this time. Vaccines are $140 for self-pay individuals but are free at most pharmacies. Flu shots also are available by appointment.
The Pitt County Health Department, 201 Government Circle, Greenville, is providing free flu and COVID19 vaccines for adults who have no health insurance or whose insurance doesn’t cover all vaccination costs. The vaccinations are being provided though the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Bridge Access program. Call 902-2449 to make an appointment.

Family Chess Club
The Family Chess Club meets from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Apt To Learn, 650 E. Fire Tower Road, Suite B, Winterville. Chess lectures will be from 6-7 p.m. Chess sets are provided. All levels of players are welcome. The club is an affiliate of the United States Chess Federation and conducts sanctioned chess tournaments on occasion.
