The Leroy James Farmers Market will reopen at 8 a.m. on Saturday after closing for more than two months of cleaning, repairs and upgrades.

The market, 4560 County Home Road, south of Greenville, closed for repairs in January and reopened to revised hours of operation after many of its vendors offered wares across the highway at the Pitt County Senior Center.

“We are pleased with the renovations and cleaning efforts completed during the closing. The clean space and restructured Market flow will provide vendors an improved experience when interacting with customers,” Pitt County Manager Janis Gallagher said in a news release.

The market is now open 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturdays with a network of farmers who provide fresh, locally grown produce, said PJ Andrews, director of the Pitt Soil and Water Conservation District. Additional vendor specialties include fresh meats, baked goods, artisan crafts, local honey and more.

In addition to roof repairs and deep cleaning inside and out, new display tables were put in place to ensure that walking lanes will be more maneuverable for patrons, including those who use wheelchairs or other mobility aids, and to prevent congestion along footpaths. Work also is ongoing to ensure the facility meets ADA standards.

“Whether shopping for produce or hand-crafted goods, the Leroy James Farmers Market has something for everyone. Come early, shop local and meet me at the market,” Gallagher said.
