    High school roundup: Rose baseball stays perfect at 12-0

    The J.H. Rose baseball train kept rolling on Friday night as the Rampants were never tested in a 6-1 win over George Washington in the Pitt County Classic.

    Rose scored three runs in the first inning and Davis Hathaway struck out eight and scattered four hits in a complete-game pitching win.

    Ty Williams tripled and drove in two runs to power the Rampants (12-0), while Owen Simmons doubled and drove in two more and Ethan Simmons added a double and an RBI.

    Rose took on Franklinton on Monday night and plays First Flight on Tuesday.

    Ayden-Grifton 17, Roanoke Rapids 8

    After falling behind 8-2 in the early innings on Saturday, Ayden-Grifton did the unlikely by pounding home 15 unanswered runs the rest of the way for a holiday tournament win.

    The teams each logged nine hits, and Chargers Jack Ewell and Camden Wilson traded home runs, with Ewell also hitting a single and a double and driving in six runs and Wilson driving in three in the win. Bailor Peebles doubled and drove in two and Cole Vaughan added two hits and an RBI.

    Ayden-Grifton (9-3) hosts unbeaten Greene Central on Tuesday.

    Farmville Central 5, Voyager 4 (9 inn.)

    The Jaguars rallied to tie the game 4-4 with a run in the bottom of the fifth inning on Saturday, and the score remained that way until they scored the winner in the bottom of the ninth.

    Luke Corbett helped to key the win with two hits and two RBIs for Farmville (7-4), while Trey Williford and Emerson Howell (RBI) added doubles.

    Farmville travels to Washington on Tuesday.

    South Central 7, Pine Forest 2

    SC moved to 10-2 this season after knocking off Pine Forest on Saturday.

    Rahkeem Williams and Brody Brannan (2-3, RBI) led the Falcons offense with doubles, while Brody Stallings, Joshua Britt and Mason Hobbs also drove in runs in the win.

    Justin Blow struck out eight and allowed two hits in 5.1 innings on the mound.

    South Central played Eastern Randolph on Monday and faces Ashley on Wednesday.

    SOFTBALL

    D .H. Conley 4, South Leonor 1

    The Vikings chalked up a pair of Saturday tournament wins to improve to 7-3 on the season, outscoring their two opponents by a combined 15-2.

    Against the Blue Devils, the Vikes scored twice in the first inning and never trailed, charting six hits and riding four South Lenoir errors to the win.

    Later in the day, Conley pounded West Johnson by a count of 11-1.

    The Vikings host Wake Forest on Friday in non-conference action.
