The D.H. Conley girls’ soccer team not only kept winning last week in the buildup to a Tuesday night showdown with rival J.H. Rose, but the Vikings kept doing so in lopsided fashion.

The 10-3 Vikings entered the match against the equally impressive 10-2-1 Rampants riding a three-game shutout string in which they outscored their opposition by a combined score of 23-0.

In the final tune-up for the Rampants, Conley (7-0 Big Carolina Conference) scored eight first-half goals on the way to a 9-0 blanking of Havelock last Thursday night. The win included two goals each from Annelise Black and Jahniyah Augustus and single tallies by Meredith Rupp, Rebekah Ochoa, Grace Gaskins, Marissa Sutton and Mallory Richardson.

Rose (6-2 BCC) entered Tuesday’s game unbeaten in five matches, including a 7-0 rout of Northside Jacksonville on Thursday night.

The Vikings beat the Rampants 1-0 in the first installment on March 19.

The Vikings are right back on the field Wednesday night against Jacksonville, while Rose travels to New Bern on Thursday.

    Southern Nash 11, Ayden-Grifton 1

The Chargers were no match for the Firebirds on Monday night as the visitors from Bailey ran their season record to a perfect 16-0 and the hosts dropped their second straight.

Southern Nash shattered a 1-1 tie with six runs in the fourth inning and four more in the seventh. A-G (9-7, 6-4) managed four hits. They included a triple by Cassidy Butler, and Raelyn Jones drove in the lone run for the Chargers.

Ayden-Grifton is back in action at C.B. Aycock on Wednesday night.

    Wakefield 3, D.H. Conley 0

The host Wolverines did all their damage in the first two innings on Monday night, taking the 3-0 lead by which they won and then riding the arm of Dayna Bland.

The Wakefield hurler held Conley (13-4, 8-1) to one hit while striking out eight and walking two.
