    Six students receive SECU Foundation scholarships

    Six graduating seniors from from the area have been awarded $10,000 scholarships from the SECU Foundation.

    The “People Helping People” scholarship recognizes community involvement, leadership, character, integrity and scholastic achievement, according to the foundation, a charitable organization funded by the members of State Employees’ Credit Union.

    The scholarships, which are to be used for tuition and university approved educational expenses over eight consecutive semesters, are awarded to graduating seniors studying at one of the 16 universities that are part of the University of North Carolina System. This year’s local recipients are:

    Thomas Brann, a senior at D.H. Conley High School, for study at East Carolina University.Jade Brown, a senior at South Central High School, for study at North Carolina Central University.Jordan Garner, a senior at J.H. Rose High School, for study at North Carolina Central University.Haleigh Paige Long, a senior at Farmville Central High School, for study at East Carolina University.Felicity Ream, a senior at D.H. Conley High School, for study at North Carolina State University.Inna Richardson, a senior at South Central High School, for study at East Carolina University.

    High school scholarships awarded for the 2024 academic year represent a $4.4 million contribution toward the educational goals of college-bound students, the foundation said.

    “The foundation’s long-standing support of this scholarship program over the past 19 years has helped make college more affordable for thousands of students to pursue a quality education through the University of North Carolina System,” said SECU Foundation Executive Director Jama Campbell.

    “We hope that the award will make a lasting impact on the lives of every recipient as they prepare for a lifetime of professional and personal fulfillment. On behalf of SECU Foundation and SECU members, we offer these scholarship winners our sincere congratulations and best wishes.”

    SECU Foundation’s “People Helping People” High School Scholarship program has provided over $75 million in scholarships for North Carolina high school seniors since 2005.
