GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The Fourth of July is right around the corner and that means the skies will be filled with fireworks. While fireworks are fun, experts say that they are also dangerous.

They suggest that you keep a bucket of water nearby. You make sure children are not near them and make sure you understand the instructions on the back of the packages. Justin Davis, who has worked at TNT Fireworks for three years, said the surface you plan on shooting fireworks from is also a factor to consider in everyone’s safety.

“With dry, dry fields, what would be recommended is either to put out some water with a hose or something, so the grass or whatever area you’re working with is not too dry and will not catch fire,” Davis said.

If setting fireworks off yourself isn’t for you, Greenville plans to set them off at 9:15 on July 4 at Town Common. Click here to find out more about those fireworks along with all the other Independence Day festivities around Eastern North Carolina.
