A now familiar set of faces won the European and African title to earn the first spot in the Little League Softball World Series, set to begin in Greenville on Aug. 4.

Emilia Romagna (Bologna, Italy) defeated Czech Bohemia, 7-1, in the region championship game and will return to Greenville in August. Emilia Romagna LL went 5-0 in the region tournament while defeating runner-up Bohemia LL twice.

Italy has represented the Europe and Africa Region in each of the past three Little League Softball World Series events featuring international teams, with Lombardia earning the bid in 2023 and 2019 while Emilia Romagna won the honors in 2022. This marks the eighth time in history that Italy is represented in the tournament, dating back to Lombardia’s first trip in 2008.

The 2024 Little League Softball World Series is set to take place at Stallings Stadium at Elm Street Park in Greenville from Aug. 4-11. There are two brackets — Orange and Purple — and there is no cost to attend the games and parking is also free.

This year also marks the 50th Anniversary of the World Series.

Emilia Romagna will compete in the Orange Bracket and will play its first game against the winner of Game 3 between the Latin America Region and Central Region champions on Monday, Aug. 5.

There are four games scheduled for each day beginning at 10 a.m. The games start in three-hour intervals, with Game 2 set for 1 p.m., Game 3 at 4 p.m. and Game 4 at 7 p.m.

The third-place game will be played at noon on Aug. 11, with the championship game to follow at 3 p.m.

In addition to the games, participants at this year’s event will once again have the unique experience of spending time with top athletes in the game as Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball returns to Greenville for the 2024 AU Pro Games at the LLSWS, featuring a doubleheader at on Aug. 7 at East Carolina.
