GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Campers in the Greenville Fire-Rescue’s Junior Fire Marshal Academy learned how the weather can impact firefighters and their jobs.

Storm Team 9 Meteorologist David Sawyer spoke to the campers about weather safety Monday. Throughout the week, the campers will learn about firefighting, how to stay safe from kitchen fires, house fires, fire injuries and water safety.

“Weather safety has a really huge part of what firefighters do. For example, in the heat and humidity that we’re experiencing in the summer, when you add to that, a fire ground or working a fire with all their equipment on, that heat safety is so important,” Sawyer said.

The annual camp runs through Friday when the children will celebrate their graduation from the academy.
