GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — After J.D. Vance was selected to be Donald Trump’s running mate in the upcoming election, reactions followed.

“When you pick someone, you know, half your age, someone who can step in and has experience in business, a military background, a law degree, you know, you can’t go wrong,” Representative Chris Humphrey said.

Both Representative Humphrey and Representative Tim Reeder said the pick is important, especially because of where Vance is from.

“A mid-western guy. That’s where the swing states, most of the swing states are, up there in that area, Ohio, Wisconsin, you know, Big Ten Country,” Representative Humphrey said. “So we’ll see. I think it’s, I think, you know, America or Republicans are going to be happy with that selection.”

“I think that whenever a vice presidential candidate is selected, you look for them to bring something to the campaign,” Representative Reeder said. “I think in his history of where he grew up, in the Midwest and the roots that J.D. Vance has, I think he is going to be an important campaign partner for Donald Trump in the Midwest.”

All this comes on the heels of an assassination attempt on the former president over the weekend. “Americans are going to be thinking, ‘what could happen if the vice president had to step in and take over this role? This choice gives Americans a better feeling if Trump were to win the presidency,” Representative Humphrey said.

He said Vance and Trump share a lot of the same views on policies like economic development, taxes, investments, decreasing regulation and protecting the border.

President Joe Biden’s reaction to the selection of Vance came with a tone of them being two in the same. “He’s a clone of Trump on the issues of global issues. So, I don’t see any difference,” President Biden said.
