GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — The Little League Softball World Series is coming to Greenville again this year. In a little more than two weeks, teams from all around the world will converge on Pitt County for the chance to compete in a once-in-a-lifetime tournament.

That includes the hometown favorite Pitt County team that punched its ticket to the tournament for the third year in a row. Pitt County took down Johnston County last Tuesday in the state championship to advance to the Little League World Series at Elm Street Park.

The team advanced all the way to the final game of the tournament last year. Coach Percy Edwards said the returning experience on this team is going to be a big advantage this year.

“Last year, we made it to the final game and so, we kind of know what to expect and I think the people that were there last year will be able to calm everybody else down,” Edwards said.

Candace Lynn, a returning player with the team, credited the team’s mentality for its success so far this year. “I think it’s how motivated we are because last year we were a little nervous about going for the first time and now I feel like we got the hang of it, and I think our team is really positive,” Lynn said.

The tournament takes place at Elm Street Park from Aug. 4-11.
