ARLINGTON, Texas (WNCT) -– East Carolina junior right-handed pitcher Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman was drafted in the 16th round (483rd overall) of the 2024 Major League Baseball Draft Tuesday by the Seattle Mariners.

Lunsford-Shenkman is the fifth ECU player drafted in 2024, marking the most in a single season for the program since seven Pirates were chosen in 2019.

Lunsford-Shenkman earned recognition as a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist, First Team All-America by Baseball America and First Team all-conference.

He finished with a 3-2 record in 2024, posted a 1.55 earned run average, had five saves and 79 strikeouts to 21 walks. Batters hit just .218 against him on the season.
