GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — Governor Roy Cooper was in Greenville on Wednesday to make an economic development announcement.

More jobs are coming to Greenville thanks to a nearly $400 million expansion project. Governor Cooper and the Japanese Company, Nipro Medical Corp, announced that they’re building a new plant in Pitt County’s Industrial District. They are planning to higher more than 230 people when the plant opens where there will be high paying jobs, around $56,000 a year, higher than the average salary in the county.

This will be the company’s first North American plant. Several local partners with the State, Pitt County, the City of Greenville and Greenville ENC Alliance all worked for more than two years to bring the company here.

They were attracted to Greenville because of the workforce and closeness to many other life sciences industries in the area. Once the plant is up and running they will manufacture needles and syringes for diabetes and dialysis care. Governor Cooper says this is a testament to our state’s business culture.

“North Carolina has life sciences sectors where we have really been recruiting a lot continues to grow, and we are now the fourth largest in the United States right here in North Carolina. Nypro has also learned what companies like Thermo Fisher and Bovie have sold or already know, did county and the surrounding areas. It’s a great place to live and to do business,” said Cooper.

“These jobs being in life sciences and manufacturing in general are some of our higher average wages. Having another 232 jobs among the other jobs that have just been announced is huge for our community and for our ongoing prosperity between this facility,” said Kelly Andrews, Pitt County Economic Development Director.

The company held a cultural ground breaking ceremony that was not allowed on camera, but they did bless the ground and prayed for the safety of the construction workers. Work on the new facility is planned to start by the end of this year. They hope to start hiring in 2026 and have the facility up and running by 2027.
