Greenville, N.C. — Following a 5-0 sweep against the Guayama LL team of Puerto Rico, José González Torres LL of Mexico will be representing the Latin America Region at the 2024 Little League Softball World Series in Greenville, North Carolina.
José González Torres went 5-0 in the region tournament held in Guánica, Puerto Rico, from July 8-13. The championship game was a rematch of the very first game of the tournament, in which Mexico bested Guayama 11-2.
This is the sixth time that a Mexican team has competed in the Little League Softball World Series, with their most recent appearance occurring in 2019. During the 2019 World Series, Olmeca LL of Mexico City went 2-2.
This is the first World Series appearance for José González Torres LL.
This year's Latin America Region Tournament made history as a Cuban team participated for the first time. La Palma Softball LL represented Cuba in the tournament.
With the first-round matchups set, José González Torres LL will compete in the Orange Bracket and will play in its first game against the Central Region on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2024, at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
In addition to the fun and excitement of the 2024 Little League Softball World Series, participants at this year’s event will also have the unique experience to spend time with the top athletes in the game as Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball returns to Greenville for the 2024 AU Pro Games at the LLSWS, featuring a doubleheader at East Carolina University on Wednesday, Aug. 7.
