    Events coming up in the Greenville area offer music, arts, theater and family fun. Here is a sampling.

    Mid-Atlantic Reptile Expo

    A Mid-Atlantic Reptile Expo will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at the Greenville Convention Center, 303 S.W. Greenville Blvd. The expo is an event geared toward reptile and amphibian enthusiasts. Cost is $10 and those 12 years and younger are admitted free.

    Pirates in Port

    Historic Bath State Historic Site, 100 S. Harding St., Bath, will host Pirates in Port from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. today. Designed to showcase the world of 18th-century sailors who worked the waterways of eastern North Carolina, the event will include weapons demonstrations, rope work, sail making and a display of ship’s carpentry tools. In case of rain, some events will be moved to the exhibit center.

    Social dance

    USA Dance Chapter #6046 will host a social dance from 7-9 p.m. today Turnage Theatre, 150 W. Main St., Washington, N.C. The event will include a Cha-Cha lesson and dancing in the gallery. Cost is $10 each.

    Science Saturdays

    The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences at Greenville, 226 W. Eighth St., will host Science Saturday from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. today. The event will include trivia and games. Today’s event will feature Snake Bingo. Other Science Saturdays this month will include: Shark Trivia, July 27. Visit facebook.com/atimeforscience or call 364-2862.

    Sunday in the Park

    The final 2024 Sunday in the Park concert series performance will feature Trainwreck from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Wildwood Park, 3450 Blue Heron Drive. The free, annual series is hosted by Greenville’s Recreation and Parks Department. The show will be held at Wildwood Park, 3450 Blue Heron Drive, in the event of rain. Call 758-7246 for cancellation information.

    Barbershop quartet

    Magnolia Arts Center will host The Carolina Chord Connection at 3 p.m. Sunday. The performance will include a cappella barbershop harmonies, songs in a variety of styles as well as jokes. Tickets are $15 and are available at magnoliaartscenter.com or at the door.

    Harry Potter viewing

    Farmville Public Library, 4276 W. Church St., will host Harry Potter Movie Mondays at 1 p.m. each week through July 29. Free. Visit farmvillelibrary.org.

    Art exhibits

    Emerge Gallery, 404 Evans St., is hosting the K-12 Student Art Exhibition for Pitt County Schools. Visit emergegallery.com. Greenville Museum of Art, 802 S. Evans St., is hosting “The Home I Never Knew: Ni de Aquí, Ni de Allá.” The exhibit, which will remain on display through Nov. 1 in the West Wing and Commons galleries, features the work of two dozen artists and emphasizes diversity of experiences and identities among Latino communities associated with being both from the United States and from their countries of origin.     Bites on the Bridge

    Greenville’s Recreation and Parks Department will host Bites on the Bridge from 5:30-8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Town Common, 105 E. First St. The event will include food trucks, live music and a beer garden. Call 329-4968.

    Market on the Square

    The Winterville Chamber of Commerce will host a Red, White and Splash Market on the Square from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday at 252 Main St. Monthly Market on the Square events include musical entertainment, food and craft vendors and children’s activities. Visit wintervillechamber.com.

    Movie in the Park

    Greenville’s Recreation and Parks Department will host Movie in the Park on Friday at the Town Common, 105 E. First St. The movie begins at dusk, about 8:30 p.m. The featured animated film is “Minions: The Rise of Gru.” There is no admission fee. Food will be available for sale. Visit greenvillenc.gov.

    Auditions

    Magnolia Arts Center, 1703 E. 14th St., will host auditions for “A Grand Night for Singing” at 6 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. July 27 and 2 p.m. July 28. Tentative performance dates for the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical are Oct. 17-20. Visit magnoliaartscenter.com.

    Barbecue festival

    Rub’n Shoulders in Farmville, a barbecue festival and cook-off, will be held from 2-8 p.m. July 27 at Duck Rabbit Craft Brewery. The event will include music, craft beer and food. Visit facebook.com/farmvillencchamber for details.

    Poker

    A poker tournament to benefit the Pet Food Pantry of Eastern North Carolina will be held at 4 p.m. July 27 at the Moose Lodge, 5393 Reedy Branch Road. Doors open at 3 p.m. The buy-in is $100. Visit facebook.com/petfoodpantryenc.

    HeARTS exhibit

    The HeARTS Exhibition will be held from 5:15-7:15 p.m. July 31 at the Jaycee Park Center for Arts and Crafts, 2000 Cedar Lane. The event, by Heartoscope and Deborah J Sheppard, will feature a chance to meet young artists and purchase their works. Refreshments will be served.

    Snakes of North Carolina

    River Park North, 1000 Mumford Road, Greenville, will host Snakes of North Carolina from 6-7 p.m. July 31. The free program will be held indoors, where participants will learn about identifying venomous and nonvenomous snakes. Participation is limited. Register before noon July 29.
